You can Yelp your favorite (or not-so-favorite) restaurant and you can Angie’s List your favorite (or not-so-favorite) plumber. Now, comes your chance to rate your favorite (or not-so-favorite) pastor! From the land of Martin Luther and Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) comes the Shepherd’s Barometer! (In German, Hirten Barometer) The site declares:
Bewerte die Arbeit Deiner Hirten und schau, was andere Schäfchen von der Arbeit Deines Lieblings-Hirten halten. Konstruktives Feedback und Dialog auf Augenhöhe – das ist Hirtenbarometer!
(English: Review the work of your pastors and see what others think of the work of your favorite sheep-herders. Constructive feedback and dialogue at eye level – the shepherd’s barometer! )
It is a system by which parishioners can rate their pastor. The pastors are rated in five areas:
- Finger on the Pulse
- Youth Work
- Senior Work
Each pastor is given an average score from 1-6 in each area and then an average score for all of the areas combined. The site was registered in April and already 25,000 parishes and 8.000 priests have been registered. Those with high scores are labeled as “white sheep” (suddenly the shepherds are transformed into sheep?) and those with low scores are labeled as “black sheep”
For what it’s worth, Pope Benedict is decidedly gray. The Pope gets a 3.82 out of 6 points. His high is in worship (4.1) and his low is in Finger on the Pulse (3.4).
I suppose it is only a matter of time before a similar site makes its way to the English speaking world.
